Penang w/ Sachepe
Finally a trip to Penang! This is actually my second
time here. My first time was ages ago, I think I was still in primary school
then (I don't remember a single thing). This time I came with two of my very
close friends from my uni; Anis and Yasmin. Yasmin is a Penangite (A resident
of Penang), which was one of the reason why we wanted to visit Penang. Since we
were there only for 2 days and 1 night, we were not able to visit all the POI.
Nevertheless, we tried our best to make the most of our time there and I really
enjoyed myself. Let me just break it down to you (i'll try to summarise);
Day 1 -
Anis and I took a midnight bus
ride from Kuala Lumpur to Penang. We reached Butterworth around 6am and met
with Yasmin there. Took the ferry to Georgetown. Walked all the way from the
ferry terminal to our accommodation (Elephant House Boutique Hotel), took us
about 25 minutes of walking. Thought of stopping by at some street art on our
way to the hotel but apparently Penang is really
really really hot, we weren't
able to capture that much street art. After reaching the hotel, we freshened up
and then headed to Komtar. We ate late breakfast in one of the malls there and
later took the Rapid Penang bus (no. 204 - if not mistaken) to Penang Hill.
After spending some time there, we became hungry and tired. Not wanting to
spend to much on food (the food is slightly more expensive if its sold in a
tourist destination), we decided to eat somewhere near our hotel. Ended up
spending a lot anyways because we decided to try out Georgetown's Hipster
Cafes. I don't remember the name of the cafe, however I remember I ordered
waffles and it tasted so-so. The ambience though was really nice, they even had
this cupboard full of board games that the customers could play. About an hour
or so after that, we head back to our hotel and rest. A little after 6pm, we
took an Uber to Penang Avatar Secret Garden. Hands down, no joke, one of the
best place I've ever been. First of all, its FREE! Yes, entrance is free, you
don't need to pay a single cent. Second, its really
really beautiful, the
pictures doesn't give it justice. It felt like I was really in Avatar land or
something. Around 45 minutes after that, we headed to Gurney Drive and took our
dinner there.
Day 2 –
Started our day with breakfast at one of the stalls at
the side of the road (again, I forget what was it called but apparently they’re
famous for their Roti Canai with Curry Chicken). All we did on the last day of
our trip in Penang was visiting their museums. Georgetown itself has so many
museums; from camera museum, chocolate and coffee museum, ghost museum, glass
museum etc. Alas, since time wasn’t on our side, we were only able to go to
three museums; Glass Museum, Magic World Phantamania and Penang Wonderfood
Museum. If you ever visit Georgetown, do come to these places because its so
much fun., especially Wonderfood Museum. Don’t forget to bring along your IC
(if you’re Malaysian) and Student Card (if you’re a student) because my oh my
you’ll get a discount.
That’s pretty much it from my Penang trip. I’ll definitely
come back again, and maybe I would focus more on Penang food, I don’t think I
ate that much “Penang Food” at that time.
